$1 Million Offered In 4G Development Prizes

YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, a communications provider poised to launch Malaysia’s first nationwide 4G network, has announced its “mYprize” Global Developer Challenge. Offering $1 million in prizes, this competition is designed to inspire entrepreneurs and innovators around the world to create new 4G mobile Internet products and services for Malaysian deployment.

The company envisions a modern broadband nation enhanced by the Internet and supports technological innovation. In 2009, it created the YTL 4G Innovation Network and opened a testing center at Sentul Park near Kuala Lampur that is designed to help make mobile Internet access a reality throughout Malaysia.

Developers can submit their entries through May 1, 2010. Ideas will be judged based on their originality and commercial potential. Finalists will be invited to demonstrate their products in person to a panel of expert and community judges. Winners will be announced in September 2010, and cash prizes will be awarded in multiple categories.

The Top Applications category will offer a first prize of $200,000, a second prize of $120,000, and a third prize of $80,000. The Top 4G Devices category will offer a first prize of $200,000, a second prize of $120,000, and a third prize of $80,000. The Malaysian Only Prize will be $120,000. The Top Device Idea will win $40,000. And, the Top Application Idea will win $40,000.

Winning entries may be developed for mass deployment to customers upon the launch of the nationwide YTL Communications 4G network in Malaysia in the second half of 2010. Interested developers can go to the “mYprize” portal at www.myprize.my to learn more details, register, and submit their entries.
