Class D Amps Pack High Power In Compact Design
The GM-D9500F provides a matching full-range class D amplifier with the same electrical and thermal efficiencies and the same compact chassis design.
Announced at this week’s International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, three class D amplifiers in the GM Digital series from Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. offer dynamic, balanced sound quality combined with high power output in an extremely compact chassis, according to the company. The four-channel GM-D9500F and the monoblock GM-D8500M and GM-D7500M produce the same power output as conventional amplifiers that are more than double their physical size, Pioneer says.
The devices in the GM Digital series are 80% to 90% more efficient than traditional class A/B amplifiers, the company claims. The GM-D8500M and GM-D7500M are specifically engineered to power in-vehicle subwoofers. They also feature 2-Ω stability to deliver high power and high current in a wide variety of configurations, from a single subwoofer to multiple subwoofer applications. The GM-D9500F provides a matching full-range class D amplifier with the same electrical and thermal efficiencies and the same compact chassis design (see the figure). Combining the GM-D9500F with either of the monoblock amplifiers provides the foundation for a high-performance car audio system in a footprint that takes up less than 2 square feet of space, Pioneer says.
Each amplifier features black, aluminum die-cast heatsinks and a hairline silver aluminum top plate for maximum heat dissipation. The GM-D9500F produces 75 W • 4, the GM-D8500M provides 300 W • 1, and the GM-D7500M produces 200 W • 1. All three models will be available this month for the suggested retail prices of $270, $280, and $200, respectively.
