UWB chipset completes WiMedia registration
Alereon has successfully completed the official WiMedia Alliance Registration Program for its AL5300/4100 and AL5300/5100 WiMedia chipsets. Both chipsets are members of the company's AL5000 family, which is based on the WiMedia common radio platform. "The registration of Alereon's latest chipsets resulted from stringent interoperability tests designed to meet WiMedia compliance and the global ultrawideband standard," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "By adding these new chipsets to our growing family of certified wireless USB products, Alereon continues to solidify its position as a leader and pacesetter in the global UWB market space."
WiMedia's Certification Program is comprised of two parts, the first of which, a compliance and interoperability program, tests and "registers" PHY implementations, based on the WiMedia Alliance's PHY specification. Once a PHY is registered, it then becomes eligible for use in a platform that can be submitted for certification against the program's second part, the WiMedia Platform Certification.
