Enterprise System Turns Cabs Into Operation Centers
The Mobile Computing Platform 200 (MCP200) series from Qualcomm is designed to increase revenue for transportation companies by enabling drivers to provide better customer service and enhancing in-cab productivity. As an addition to the Qualcomm mobile Computing Platform, the MCP200 delivers an expanded set of the company’s OmniVision Transportation Services, adding Wi-Fi, in-cab video training, Internet access, and multimode capability.
According to Qualcomm, the MCP200 will transform taxis and trucks into mobile operations centers. Business-critical activities that previously were confined to a corporate office, field service center, or driver kiosk now can be completed inside the cab. For example, drivers now can access training, targeted customer information, and relevant back-office data like payroll information from the cab.
The enhanced availability of company information and client-specific instructions makes drivers more productive during their non-driving downtime as well as more self-sufficient. With these expanded in-cab capabilities, drivers also can better serve customers with accurate, current instructions, making them a true extension of business operations that will improve customer and driver satisfaction, according to Qualcomm.
Commercially available this summer, the MCP200 includes a number of functions. For example, its tethered trailer tracking provides near real-time tractor-trailer ID, trailer location, and status information. Automated arrival and departure functions monitor the beginning and end of trip details to improve scheduling and billing management. Navigation, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance capabilities are available as well.
