WiMAX systems for nationwide network in Mozambique
Redline Communications has announced that Teledata de Mozambique, Lda, which is jointly owned by Telecomunicacoes de Mocambique (TDM) and Portugal Telecom, has expanded its RedMAX-based WiMAX network in four cities in Mozambique to deliver fixed and portable broadband services to businesses and residents.
Teledata Mozambique installed Redline's RedMAX WiMAX Forum Certified systems in Maputo and Beira, the country's two largest cities, and quickly expanded its service to become one of the highest-capacity WiMAX networks in the world. In March, the company expanded its network to bring WiMAX to the cities of Matola and Nampula to serve enterprise customers.
The next deployment stage will include the introduction of user self-installable RedMAX indoor subscriber units that will enable customers to benefit from nomadic and limited portable WiMAX services. Teledata Mozambique will continue to optimize its RedMAX networks to increase the subscriber density, coverage and quality of service.
"The response to the initial launch of our WiMAX network was tremendous. In just 11 months, more than 800 businesses and residents subscribed to our WiMAX broadband services. The ease of install and capacity of the RedMAX system enabled us to meet this demand and to generate a rapid return on investment that is contributing to further expansion of our network," said Luis Filipe de Lucas Mhula, chief executive officer, Teledata Mozambique. "With its products' proven performance and its leadership in the WiMAX industry, Redline is an important technology partner to Teledata Mozambique as we implement our WiMAX strategy."
Teledata Mozambique offers a range of pre-paid WiMAX service packages to suit the needs of its subscribers. With the expansion of its network, the company will introduce new services including packages tailored for specific markets (eg., residential, professional), high-bandwidth packages of 512 KB and 1MB, and VAS (VPN) services over its RedMAX Network. Teledata Mozambique's RedMAX network has the capacity to service thousands of subscribers in Mozambique today.
"Teledata Mozambique has recognized the growing demand in its market for premium wireless services that require true broadband connections," said Kevin Suitor, vice president, marketing and business development, Redline Communications. "Redline is helping telecommunications providers throughout Africa and around the world to deploy the most proven and reliable WiMAX systems and to deliver the fixed and portable services they need to grow their business and better serve their customers. By choosing Redline, carriers have the opportunity to establish a first-to-market advantage and a rapid return on their WiMAX investment."
