AeroScout  and Deutsche Industrie Video System GmbH (DIVIS) have announced a unique, integrated active RFID deployment for customer Pfefferkorn Spedition GmbH. Using this solution, Pfefferkorn management can now easily identify and locate packages, reducing the financial impact of shipment loss, damage or theft and third-party claims.

“Given the sheer number of shipments that enter and leave our warehouse, the location of customers’ assets is crucial to our business,” said Klaus Weiss, general manager at Pfefferkorn. “With this solution, we are able to clearly identify and track every single shipment and package, by combining location data with video surveillance footage. In addition, this solution has substantially decreased the tracking time for shipments--from hours to seconds.”

The solution was jointly developed by AeroScout and DIVIS, and uniquely links RFID location data with video surveillance information to locate shipments. AeroScout’s Wi-Fi-based active RFID tags are attached to mobile barcode scanners used to scan shipments entering and exiting the facility. When a scan is performed, the precise location of the shipment is logged, and linked to the relevant video footage from one or more cameras that cover the specific scan location in the warehouse.

The combination of accurate location data and complex video image management keeps time spent searching for videos to a minimum and allows the user to clearly identify every single shipment. Historical location and video data is also stored, enabling Pfefferkorn management to easily locate the exact video footage of a shipment being scanned as it enters and moves through the warehouse.

“With thousands of shipments being continuously sorted and moved, the partnership between AeroScout and DIVIS helps to provide valuable visibility into Pfefferkorn’s operations,” said Andris Berzins, managing director, EMEA at AeroScout. “This is a unique and innovative solution that meets the emerging security and operational needs of shipping providers and other enterprises.”

“We’re excited to partner with AeroScout to broaden the reach of our camera surveillance technology,” said Thomas Kroll, managing director at DIVIS. “As a result, existing customers such as Pfefferkorn can greatly reduce employee time spent on tracking shipments while achieving increased efficiency and productivity.”
