Upgraded WiMAX evaluation platform
Terocelo Inc. has announced that because of increasing sales and strong interest in its True Software Radio WiMAX evaluation platform, the company plans to release its next-generation platform in early Fall. This new version includes the latest revision of the Lycon family of chips containing Terocelo’s proprietary True Software Radio technology. The new 0.18 µ SiGe Lycon chip will provide increased overall performance and functionality, incorporating transmitter performance enhancements.
The Lycon-WMB101 WiMAX evaluation platform allows operations at any frequency between 2 GHz and 4 GHz. As in the first version, this system lets customers evaluate the technology and easily develop their own applications using the Lycon family chipset. For example, one programmable chipset could support Sprint’s AWS spectrum, Korean WiBRO at 2.3 GHz, European 2.5 GHz bands and Asian 3.5 GHz.
The timing of the platform release has been scheduled to meet the needs of original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing products to satisfy the forecasted high-growth rate in the WiMAX marketplace. The worldwide WiMAX equipment market is expected to increase to $5.6 billion in sales by 2010, up from $586 million in 2006, according to a publicly available forecast published as part of Infonetics’ Research Quarterly WiMAX report.
