M2M 3G Embedded Module Tackles Extreme Environments
The EM700 machine-to-machine (M2M) UMTS embedded module from Huawei is designed for industrial applications in extreme conditions while providing mobile broadband performance. The device can withstand temperatures from –30°C to 75°C while resisting very low to very high humidity (5% to 95%), shock, air pollution, and congested wireless network traffic. Huawei Technologies showcased the EM700 during the International CTIA Wireless 2009 show in Las Vegas earlier this month.
The module’s performance enhancements include Firmware Over-the-Air technology, which remotely fixes device software. Also, its multiple interfaces allow flexible usage and connections to other devices, voice and SMS services, and support for mainstream operating systems such as Windows 2000, XP, and Vista as well as Linux. To demonstrate the module, Huawei introduced its “5A’s” concept— anti-humidity, anti-shock, anti-dust, anti-static, and anti-jamming. Huawei’s M2M modules can be integrated into mobile computing systems, logistics and fleet management systems, gateways, metering and remote monitoring equipment, and other devices requiring high-speed wireless data connectivity.
