Lightweight Antenna Handles 1-kW Mobile TV Signal
The MTV-4, which is being introduced to the mobile industry at 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is a lightweight antenna that supports the complete UHF TV band. The unit is the latest addition to Radio Frequency Systems’ (RFS) comprehensive range of mobile TV antennas, which includes the compact CTV series; the ultra-slim, ultra-lightweight HU6 systems; and the SDV-4 wide-frequency omni-directional unit.
At 20 kg, the 140-mm diameter MTV-4 is the smallest broadband antenna in its genre, according to RFS. It handles up to 1 kW and offers a gain of 6 dB, using a single antenna supporting frequencies from 470 to 860 MHz. It is well-suited for multichannel mobile TV operation, and its small size and low drag profile provide a high wind-speed rating and low wind-load characteristics.
The CTV series also accommodates the 470- to 860-MHz band and is a compact unit that handles 500 W and provides 6-dB gain. The HU6 omni-directional antennas are ultra-compact units that weight just 3.5 kg. They offer an 8-MHz channel and handle up to 300 W. The SDV-4 is an omni-directional, vertically polarized unit with a 1-kW capacity. It also handles the entire UHF TV band and offers an excellent VSWR. The SDV-4 weighs 45 kg. A 2-kW version is available.
