6-Gbit/s SATA Redriver/Equalizer Consumes 290 mW

The SN75LVCP601 dual-channel, single-lane serial ATA (SATA) redriver and signal conditioner from Texas Instruments features the lowest active power and automatic low-power (ALP) mode of any 6-Gbit/s redriver/equalizer available today, according to the company. It boasts a maximum active power consumption of 290 mW, or about 50% less than the nearest competitor, TI says, extending battery life in portable electronics like notebook PCs (see the figure).

The device reconditions and drives high-speed signals that propagate over longer distances, enabling optimal performance for SATA drives of any speed (1.5/3.0/6.0 Gbits/s) without changing equalization or de-emphasis channel settings. It also offers selectable equalization, de-emphasis, and integrated output squelch for optimized performance settings for system implementation at the lowest power. Its ALP mode consumes only 10 mA (maximum) to extend the battery life of portable devices when no external devices are connected to the eSATA port as well.

The SN75LVCP601 is available in a 20-pin quad flat no-lead package with a suggested resale pricing of $2.00 each in quantities of 1000.
