MMIC VCOs offer low phase noise
Hittite Microwave Corp. has released two SMT-packaged MMIC voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) with integrated buffer amplifiers. Complementing the supplier's existing line of monolithic VCOs, the new members are designed for high power output and require no external components.
While the HMC505LP4 covers 6.8 to 7.4 GHz and delivers +11 dBm of output power with a single side band (SSB) phase noise of -106 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, the HMC506LP4 covers 7.8 to 8.7 GHz and offers +14 dBm output power with a SSB phase noise of -103 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz offset. Both VCOs operate from a single +3 V supply and integrate the varactor, negative resistance circuit, resonator and buffer amplifier on a single HBT MMIC.
Each product is housed in a standard 4 mm x 4 mm QFN SMT plastic package with identical PCB assignments. Samples and evaluation PC boards are available from stock and can be ordered on line.
