RF connector increases interconnect density

Mini-BNC (Bayonet Nut Coupling) series of RF connectors from Tyco Electronics meets the growing demand for next-generation telecom and broadband applications which demand higher connector densities. Preserving the high-performance characteristics that have made the standard BNC connector so popular, the Mini-BNC offers the same advantage of a bayonet locking mechanism, allowing for quicker connect and disconnects, but permits 40 percent more interconnects in the same area. The Mini-BNC offering is a suitable fit for 75 Ohm systems, offering 500 mating cycles, electrical performance to 2 GHz, and intermatability with competitive miniature BNC offerings. The connector uses standard BNC installation tooling, eliminating the need for retraining of field installers. The PC board-mount jack uses the same footprint as standard BNC jacks, for drop-in replacement in DS3 telecom applications.

The Mini BNC connectors are available in straight and right-angle plug configurations for popular cable sizes, as well as straight and right-angle PCB jack receptacles for board-mount applications. Connectors for additional cable sizes and adapters (in and between series) can be developed. Sample quantities of the connector are available now.
