Basestation On A Chip Accelerates WiMAX Infrastructure Designs

The DAN2400 complete WiMAX platform from DesignArt Networks facilitates the design of WiMAX basestations and relay stations. This system-on-a-chip (SoC) makes it possible for WiMAX vendors to create a complete line of radio access network (RAN) products. The chip is applicable to all formats, including microcells, picocells, and femtocells of the indoor or outdoor variety.

This open WiMAX SoC platform is based on a software-centric multicore architecture designed for high performance carrier-grade networks. DesignArt also offers DAN2400-RD reference designs with various options for RF boards plus dual Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Some of the options include 2x2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) femtocell and picocell designs, 2x4 and 4x4 MIMO picocells and microcells, and sector designs as well as a complete single-chip three-sector 6x6 MIMO basestation design.

DesignArt provides complete physical-later (PHY) and media access controller (MAC) software packages that let vendors deliver a full-featured basestation design with embedded zero-cost self backhaul. These software packages also enable equipment vendors to design a complete infrastructure portfolio ranging from a WiMAX basestation to a high-capacity relay station to a zero-cost backhaul and WiMAX cluster. This software-based open 4G SoC architecture lets vendors differentiate themselves an any level. Software development kits for all embedded processor subsystems are available.
