DPO Saves Display Power In Tablets And Smart Phones
Working with the VEE technology, QuickLogic’s Display Power Optimizer (DPO) adjusts display brightness without negatively affecting the viewing experience, significantly extending single-charge battery life, according to the company.
The second-generation Display Power Optimizer (DPO) technology from QuickLogic Corp. offers additional system battery life extension capabilities through its Intelligent Brightness Control feature, which increases power savings when users are watching video on their tablets and smart phones.
The company’s previous DPO technology regulated display brightness solely based on ambient lighting, resulting in documented battery life extensions of as much as 41%. The new Intelligent Brightness Control feature in the DPO 2.0 adds another 10% in system battery life savings based on content.
Based on the iridix core from Apical Limited, QuickLogic’s complementary VEE technology is designed to enhance the viewability of mobile displays under challenging lighting conditions such as bright ambient light through dynamically optimizing video characteristics to provide a natural viewing experience based on the human visual system.
Working with the VEE technology, the DPO adjusts display brightness without negatively affecting the viewing experience, significantly extending single-charge battery life, according to the company (see the figure).
The DPO 2.0 technology is available immediately as a proven system block (PSB) in mass-production qualified ArcticLink II VX2 and VX4 customer-specific standard product (CSSP) solution platforms.
