Eight-User HSPA Femtocell IC Announced
The PC8219 from picoCell is a complete baseband solution for eight-user HSPA femtocells designed to run on the company’s PC202-10 picoArray processor chip. The device was announced at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where picoCell also demonstrated the PC302, a cost-optimized SoC solution for HSPA femtocells.
In an important third-party announcement, Cambridge Consultants Limited launched a comprehensive GSM solution based on picoCell’s products. Two of the company’s lead customers are development partners for the product.
The PC302 targets more cost-sensitive residential applications. It is the first in the PC3xx series of devices, which were four years in development and testing.
Other solutions demonstrated at the show involved WiMAX (in collaboration with Kisan Telecom), TD-LTE (in association with ASTRI and Agilent), and FDD LTE (working with mimoOn). Sagem Communications, a partner in the femtocell market with Alcatel-Lucent, also played a key role at the picoChip stand with a demonstration of a rich “service enabled” 3G femtocell integrated with a home gateway and HDTV set-top box.
