Femtocell And Picocell Power Amps Exhibit Great Linearity

The AWB7127 and AWB7123 power amplifiers (PAs) from Anadigics are designed for use in femtocells, picocells, and in-home customer premises equipment (CPE). These highly efficient and linear devices can support complex modulation schemes such as those used in WCDMA, HSDPA, and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) interfaces. They also provide extra margin to the adjacent channel power (ACPR) requirements at rated output power.

Operating in the most popular 3G frequency bands, the AWB7123 supports UMTS band 2 in North America (1.93 to 1.99 GHz), and the AWB7127 supports band 1 in Europe, Asia, and parts of South America (2.11 to 2.17 GHz). These highly integrated PA modules have been designed for easy incorporation into virtually any small-cell basestation platform, including future LTE systems.

Both PAs are manufactured using an advanced indium-galllium-phosphide (InGaP) heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology offering state-of-the-art reliability, temperature stability, and ruggedness. They also deliver up to +24.5 dBm of WCDMA power with an ACPR of –50 dBc, in addition to 30-dB gain and 18% efficiency. Their RF matching networks are optimized for output power, efficiency, and linearity in a 50-Ω system.

As femtocell technology matures, the market will expand to about 49 million femtocell access points by 2014 with 114 million users worldwide, according to the Femto Forum. Femtocells, which are small basestations that sit in the home or office, use the customer’s own broadband connection to shuttle data and voice traffic between a mobile device and its network. They also improve coverage in areas where signals have difficulty penetrating dense structures.

Made with InGaP HBT technology, the Anadigics AWB7123 and AWB7127 power amps target femtocells and picocells.
