Flexible Touch Sensors Create Unique Capacitive Touchscreens
Atmel’s XSense sensor can bend, allowing a single sensor to act as an edgeless touch surface and provide controls on the side of a device
Atmel’s XSense flexible touch sensors are set to ring in the next generation of thinner, lighter, edgeless, and curved capacitive touchscreens. Exploiting a proprietary roll-to-roll metal mesh technology, XSense components are higher-performance alternatives to existing touch sensors. They suit a wide range of touchscreen products, offering enhanced noise immunity, low sheet resistance, and low power consumption. In fact, they can wrap around a device, enabling touch functionality beyond the screen to anywhere they’re accessible (see the figure).
The sensors are sampling now with production commencing in the third quarter.
