By moving to a full chip-down design, the Venice 6.2 reduces the cost of implementing Wi-Fi radio. It also is a plug-in replacement for the company’s Venice 6. The new module also supports manufacturers that want their products to meet requirements for home network and audio playback certification programs, including iPod and iPhone interfacing.

The Venice 6.2 also includes new Wi-Fi antenna options Digital Rights Management, in addition to optional DAB, DAB+, DMB-A, and FM-RDS. It conforms to WorldDMB Receiver Profile 1, with support for various digital radio broadcasting standards. Its extended music player functionality features trick play controls, gapless playback, and metadata rendering on a graphical 128-by-64 LCD.

According to Frontier Silicon, the Venice 6.2 is optimized for low power and integrated audio processing. It was designed specifically for new Internet radio software that delivers significant new music player and audio EQ functionality from a number of sources, including Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and USB.

The module streams radio stations and music files in a variety of formats and protocols, including AAC, AAC+, MP#, Windows Media, Real Audio, and lossless codecs. It also is available with a comprehensive, fully qualified reference platform, the Jupiter 6.2, for a complete Internet radio reference design with DAB/DAB+/DMB-A and an LCD graphic display supporting Frontier Silicon’s enhanced user interface.
