Get More ESD Protection In The Same Space
The ESDA6V1-5TG from STMicroelectronics provides an extra channel of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection within the same dimensions as competing alternatives, according to the company. It provides 25% more channels to deliver a space-efficient solution for designers of feature-rich, tightly packed portable consumer devices such as netbooks and smart phones.
The chip conserves space by integrating ESD protection diodes for five data lines within the same 1.0- by 1.0-mm size as today’s smallest four-line devices, STMicroelectronics says. Competing devices that can protect five lines come in larger packages. A low-capacitance alternative, the ESDALC6V1-5T6, targets use with high-speed data lines such as those in SIM card, camera, or display interfaces.
Housed in a 1.0- by 1.0- by 0.4-mm Micro-DFN (dual flat no-lead) package, the chips offer a very low leakage current of 0.1 µA at 3 V and a 6-V breakdown voltage. Both comply with IEC 61000-4-2 level 4, with 15-kV air discharge and 8-kV contact discharge. The ESDA6V1-5T6 offers 34-pF capacitance for data speeds up to 15 MHz, and the ESDALC6V1-5T6 boasts less than 9-pF capacitance for data speeds up to 100 MHz.
Housed in a 1.0- by 1.0- by 0.4-mm Micro-DFN package, the ESDA6V1-5T6 from STMicroelectronics is designed to protect portable devices against ESD in less space than competing solutions.
Now in full production, the ESDA6V1-5T6 and ESDALC6V1-5T6 cost $0.24 and $0.30 respectively in quantities of 3000. Alternative pricing options are available for larger quantities.
