High-performance mixer improves system linearity for infrastructure applications

M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has broadened its portfolio of surface mount, high-IP3, high-isolation HMIC high-barrier mixers with the addition of a new member. Designed for use in base station and infrastructure equipment, the MA4EXP400H-1277T covers the frequency band of 3500 - 4500 MHz. It is housed in a standard 3 mm x 3 mm FQFP-N, 16-lead (MLP) package.

The 50-Ohm monolithic mixer requires no additional components for circuit tuning. The high-barrier, double balanced, passive mixer design produces an input IP3 in excess of +24 dBm for exceptional system linearity across the frequency band at local oscillator (LO) drive levels of +17 dBm. The compact mixers also deliver LO-RF isolation of better-than 43 dB with conversion loss values less than 8.0 dB.

The mixer is manufactured using M/A-COM's HMIC heterolithic, silicon-glass process, which produces highly repeatable silicon-based devices, and high-Q passive components in a low-loss, low-dispersion glass circuit medium. Designed for use in receiver and transmitter applications, such as frequency up/downconversion and IQ modulation and demodulation, these mixers are suitable for multiple applications to exceed cost, performance, and size design objectives. The MA4EXP400H-1277T is available at $1.95 each in acquisition pricing for 100,000-piece quantities. All models are available from stock.
