The OV2710 from Omnivision Technologies addresses the rapidly growing demand for affordable, HD-quality digital video cameras. This native 1080p high-definition (HD) CMOS image sensor delivers high-end video conferencing and recording for camcorders, notebooks, netbooks, and other mobile applications.

The 0.33-in. sensor offers a 1920-by-1080 array using a 3-µm OmniPixel3-HS pixel, delivering excellent low-light performance of 3300 mV/(lux-second), dark current of 6 mV/s, and a peak dynamic range of 69 dB. As a result, it operates in low-light situations well below 15 lux.

Operating at 30 fps with a display resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, the OV2710 supports multiple platform architectures and controllers with both parallel and MIPI interfaces. It significantly reduces product development time by allowing system designers to leverage the same opto-electrical design across various products and multiple market segments. Mass production will begin this month.
