Integrated PLO offers low noise
Hittite Microwave Corp. has released a fully integrated InGaP HBT phase-locked oscillator (PLO) surface-mount MMIC for point-to-point/multipoint, test equipment, industrial, and VSAT subscriber applications from 14.7 to 15.4 GHz.
The HMC535LP4 GaAs InGaP HBT PLO MMIC is a fully integrated PLO incorporating a VCO, phase frequency-detector (PFD), fixed modulus prescaler, loop amplifier and a digital lock detect (LD) output. It delivers +9 dBm output power from 14.7 to 15.4 GHz, with low single sideband phase noise of -110 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. Output power and phase noise performance are excellent over temperature and shock due to the monolithic construction. Compared to discrete PLO approaches, the HMC535LP4 significantly reduces the component count and the board space required to produce a low phase noise local oscillator signal as required by high bit rate digital radios.
It operates from +5 V and +12 V supply voltages, consumes less than 2 W of power and is housed in a 4 mm x 4 mm SMT leadless QFN package. An RoHS-compliant version is available as the HMC535LP4E. Sample and production quantities are available from stock and may be ordered on-line.
