Integrated IF Transceiver Cuts Power, Space, And Costs In Wireless Backhaul Apps
The TRF2443 integrated, high-linearity, low-noise intermediate frequency (IF) transceiver from Texas Instruments offers cross-polarization interference cancellation (XPIC) support. According to TI, it enables designers to reduce solution costs by 40%, power consumption by 30%, and space by 40%, compared to discrete implementations.

Combined with an output third-order intercept point (OIP3) of 29.5 dBm and a receiver noise figure (NF) of 4.3 dB, TI says, this integration ensures superior linearity and sensitivity for wireless infrastructure backhaul and point-to-point microwave end equipment.
The TRF2443 integrates more than 15 functional blocks, including programmable baseband amplifiers, IF amplifiers, analog and digital variable gain amplifiers, a quadrature modulator and demodulator, programmable baseband low-pass filters, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and an XPIC output amplifier and receiver. Its programmable baseband low-pass filters provide flexibility to handle signals with different bandwidths and help remove unwanted interferer signals.
Additionally, its 29.5-dBm transmit (Tx) OIP3 and 9.5-dBm receive (Rx) third-order input intercept point (IIP3) allow for more complicated modulation schemes and increased data throughput. The integrated Tx/Rx synthesizers eliminate the need for complicated external local-oscillator circuitry, simplifying design. And, automatic dc offset calibration eases design implementation.
The TRF2443 comes in a 14- by 14-mm quad flat pack (QFP) and costs $24 in 1000-unit lots.
