LDO Regulators Keep Quiescent Current At Bay
Prolonging battery life in mobile and other products, the Analog Devices ADP16x series low-dropout (LDO) regulators draw 42 μA of quiescent current at full load. Four devices in the series, the ADP160, ADP161, ADP162, and ADP163, typically consume 560 nA at no load and specify a power-supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 70 dB at 60 Hz. Each delivers up to 150 mA of output current while operating from 2.2-V to 5.5-V supplies. Available in thin small-outline transistor (TSOT) packages, the ADP160 and ADP162 provide fixed output voltages while the ADP161 and ADP163 deliver adjustable outputs. The ADP160 and ADP162 are also available in wafer-level chip-scale packages (WLCSPs). Additionally, the ADP160 and ADP161 include an output switch for discharging output load capacitors to 0 V when the device is off. This ensures microcontrollers are in a known state for restart. The chips cost $0.34 each in lots of 1000. Data sheets for the regulators are available at www.analog.com/ADP160, www.analog.com/ADP161, www.analog.com/ADP162, and www.analog.com/ADP163.
