Low-Power Li-ion Charger Packs Protection
Linear Technology describes its LTC4071 as a 550-nA lithium-ion/polymer battery charger that integrates both the charger and battery-pack protection. Charge currents range to 50 mA, and a less than 0.1-nA, low-battery latching disconnect function protects even low-capacity batteries from deep discharge. The device comes in an eight-lead dual flat no-lead (DFN) package measuring 2 by 3 by 0.75 mm. Other features include pin-selectable settings of 4, 4.1, or 4.2 V, a 1% accurate battery float voltage, high battery supervisory status output, and a thermal battery conditioner. Additionally, users can charge multi-cell battery stacks by configuring several LTC4071 ICs in series. Depending on package and grade, prices range from $2.20 to $2.65 each in lots of 1000.
