Class G speaker amplifier cuts EMI
Maxim Integrated Products’ MAX9730 maximizes battery life by using a proprietary output stage that provides efficiency levels greater than Class AB devices, without the EMI penalties commonly associated with Class D amplifiers. The device is a 2.4 W, single-supply, mono, Class G speaker amplifier suitable for portable applications, such as cell phones.
The MAX9730's Class G architecture and integrated charge-pump power supply enable this device to deliver two times more output power than conventional Class AB or Class D speaker amplifiers provide from a lithium-ion (Li+) battery. The charge pump can deliver up to 500 mA over a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply-voltage range, guaranteeing up to 2.4 W into an 8 Ω load from a 3.3 V supply. Available in 2 mm x 2.5 mm, 20-bump UCSP and 4 mm x 4 mm, 28-pin TQFN packages, pricing is $0.80 for 1000 pieces.
