Maxim Integrated Products’ MAX9814 is a low-cost, high-quality microphone amplifier with automatic gain control (AGC) and low-noise microphone bias. The integrated AGC circuitry allows the designer to define hold and release times, as well as the output threshold level. The device also integrates a low-noise preamplifier, variable gain amplifier (VGA), output amplifier, and an internal low-noise microphone-bias-voltage generator that is capable of driving most electric condenser microphones. The IC is available in 1.5 mm x 2 mm, 12-bump UCSP and 3 mm x 3 mm, 14-pin TDFN packages. An evaluation kit is available to speed design implementation. Prices start at $0.59 for 10,000 pieces.
