MHL Switch Transfers HD Audio/Video At 1.3 GHz
A 3:1 high-speed USB switch with integrated MHL support, the ON Semiconductor NCN1188 allows smart phones and other portable consumer electronics to interface with HDTVs.
ON Semiconductor’s NCN1188 unfurls as the industry’s first mobile high-definition link (MHL) switch supporting both high-definition video and audio data transfers at speeds up to 1.3 GHz. A 3:1 high-speed USB switch with integrated MHL support, the switch allows smart phones and other portable consumer electronics to interface with HDTVs. The device exploits two dedicated data paths handling HD video transfers up to 720 progressive scan at 60 fps and 1080 interlaced at 30 fps plus a multi-purpose audio path with true-ground capability down to –2 V that supports generic micro-USB headsets. The NCN1188 also allows devices to share a single USB 2.0 or 3.0 receptacle for transmitting and receiving paired signals from up to three separate locations. Specs include an operating voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V, current draw of 23 mA, typical on capacitance of 4.5 pF, typical off capacitance of 3 pF, and an operating temperature range from –40°C to 125°C. Available in a 12-pin ultra-thin quad flat no-leaded (UQFN) package measuring 2 by 1.7 by 0.5 mm, pricing for the NCN1188 is $0.45 each/10,000.
