Hoping to accelerate the deployment of mobile compassing, the LSM303DLHC geo-magnetic module from STMicroelectronics debuts in a 3- by 5- by 1-mm package with an operating current down to 110 mA. In terms of size and power, the module is viable for deployment in portable apps. Features include output across full-scale ranges up to ±16g and ±8 Gauss, a magnetic sensing resolution of 2 mGauss, integrated temperature sensor, programmable FIFO memory block, 4D/6D orientation detection, two programmable interrupt signals, and operation from supply voltages from 2.16 to 3.6 V. Available in the third quarter, the LSM303DLHC costs $2.10 each in lots of 100,000.
