Very Small Filters Offer Excellent Performance For W-CMDA

With dimensions of only 10.6 by 6.0 by 4.8 mm, two block-type RF dielectric filters require 72% less mounting space than previous generations of filters, according to Murata Electronics North America. Despite their small size, the DFCL series filters offer excellent selectivity and ripple performance, important features for W-CDMA Band 1 pre-distortion (DPD) and LTE DPD amplifiers.

The filters’ high selectivity is the result of a very sophisticated multipole design. In addition, the filters exhibit ripples of 0.4 dB max at f0 ±30 MHz and 1.2 dB max at f0 ±65 MHz. This produces the wide, flat curves required at the pass band by DPD amplifiers. The new filters also provide low insertion loss and high attenuation. The filters are well-suited for cellular basestation applications that use DPD, but are also useful in lower-power and smaller basestations known as microcells and femtocells.

Both filters in the DFCL series cost $6.00 in lots of 1000. Lead time is approximately 10 weeks.
