Power Amplifier Supports 3.5-GHz WiMAX
nadigics has introduced a power amplifier (PA) module designed for use in WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) and femtocells. The AWB7230 device is a fully-matched, multi-chip module (MCM) that enables network performance across all the 3.5-GHz WiMAX bands.
The AWB7230 meets WiMAX spectrum requirements while delivering linear RF power, and can serve as the final stage amplifier in the transmit chain of either a CPE or femtocell. This device covers the full 3.3-GHz to 3.8-GHz band, so it supports 3.5-GHz WiMAX networks worldwide, and provides a high level of power efficiency available for such applications.
The AWB7230 compliments the Anadigics AWB7221 PA, which was released last year to enable CPEs and femtocells operating in the 2.5-GHz WiMAX bands. With the addition of the AWB7230, Anadigics now supports the two predominant sets of WiMAX frequency bands used around the world.
WiMAX CPE’s are an alternative to DSL and cable modems, and also play a key role in the transition to 4G, by offering consumers high speed wireless connectivity for their homes, shops, or businesses. According to the WiMAX Forum, nearly 600 WiMAX (fixed and mobile) networks have been deployed in 149 counties, with network coverage forecasted to be available to over one billion potential subscribers worldwide this year.
The Anadigics AWB7230 power amplifier supports all 3.5-GHz WiMAX frequency bands and expands Anadigics’ portfolio of power amplifiers for WiMAX.
Anadigics claims that the AWB7230 PA is a solution for current and next-generation WiMAX CPEs and smell-cell basestations. Its features include an advanced indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology and the ability to deliver up to +29 dBm of WiMAX power with low error vector magnitude (EVM). The device operates with 16% power added-efficiency at rated output power, and also incorporates RF matching networks optimized for output power, efficiency, and linearity in a 50-Ω system.
