Joining the BR series power inductors, the Taiyo Yuden BRL1608 measures 1.6 by 0.8 mm with a maximum height of 0.7 mm. Also entering the fold is the company’s BRC2012 measuring 2 by 1.2 mm with a maximum height of 1.4 mm. Both suit dc-dc converter applications in smart phones, cell phones, digital still cameras, and other compact mobile devices. Compared to current BRC1608 components with a maximum height of 1 mm, the BRL1608 realizes a reduction in height of 30%. In addition to size and height trimming, it achieves a dc resistance of 0.13 Ω at an inductance of 1 μH while the BRC2012 specifies 0.06 Ω at 1 μH. Sample price for either inductor is $0.20 each.
