Power Inductors Deliver Best Best-In-Class DC Bias Specs

With an eye on the smart-phone market, Taiyo Yuden’s MCOIL metal power inductors achieve what may be the industry’s best-in-class dc characteristics. Two MCOIL inductors embark as the first in a series of components employing metallic magnetic materials optimized for use as choke coils in compact power-supply circuits. The MAMK2520 and MDMK2020 measure 2.5 by 2 by 1.2 mm and 2 by 2 by1.2 mm, respectively. With an inductance value of 2.2 μH,  the MAMK2520T2R2M specs a saturation current of 2300 mA, which is 2.3 times higher than the company’s existing 2.2-μH BRL2518T2R2M specifying a saturation current of 1000 mA. Also at 2.2 μH, the MDMK2020T2R2M specs a saturation current of 2000 mA, 1.5 times higher than an NRS2012T2R2M with a saturation current of 1350 mA. Sample price for either component is $1 each.
