ST-Ericsson’s latest power-management products promise to significantly improve battery life in mobile handsets and other units. The components extend talk or Internet-connection time by as much as 30% compared to devices drawing power directly from the battery. The PM3533 enables a device’s dual-mode RF subsystem to operate with low-cutoff-voltage battery technology, essentially using all available battery energy. For tight-quarter designs, the PM3110 is 20% smaller than comparable dc-dc regulators for RF power amplifiers. In brief, both the PM3533 and PM3110 dynamically match a power supply to the needs of the RF power amp, thereby reducing overall energy usage.
