Power MOSFET Extends Battery Life In Netbooks And Notebooks
The Si7625DN is Vishay Intertechnology’s first 30-V p-channel TrenchFET Gen III power MOSFET in a PowerPAK 1212-8 package. According to the company, its 7 mΩ at 10 V and 11 mΩ at 4.5 V is the industry’s lowest on resistance for a p-channel MOSFET with this voltage rating in a 3.3- by 3.3-mm footprint area. The MOSFET can be used for adapter, load, and battery switches in notebook computers and netbooks as well as industrial/general systems.
Adapter switches, which switch between the adapter/wall power and the battery power, are usually on and drawing current. The Si7625DN’s on resistance translates into lower power consumption, saving power and prolonging battery life between charges, while also reducing heat to enable a smaller printed-circuit board (PCB) pad area. For load switches up to 24 V and hot-swap applications in industrial/general systems, its low on resistance also yields lower voltage drops.
The MOSFET is 100% Rg-tested and UIS-tested. It complies with the European Union’s Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC. Also, it’s halogen-free in accordance with IEC 61249-2-21. Samples of the Si7625DN are available now Production quantities will be available in the second quarter of 2010, with lead times of 16 weeks for larger orders.
