Product Portfolio Eases LTE Rollout
RFS is introducing a portfolio of products at the 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona aimed at reducing capital expenditures, minimizing cell tower load, and boosting technology. Several of the products are designed to smooth the migration to LTE without the cost and technology issues that caused problems when 3G was first introduced, the company said. The introductions include:
• ClearFill Star is the world’s first fully digital RF-over-Ethernet wireless indoor coverage solution, according to RFS. It uses a unique cost-efficient, digital IP-based approach that improves indoor cellular service by converting radio coverage into a streaming application on an IP Ethernet data network. Based on innovations in wireless, Ethernet, and packet technology, the system uses the CAT5e switches, cabling, and network administration infrastructure already installed in most office buildings.
• The LTE 2.6 ShareLite series of diplexers targets the rollout of LTE, at 2600 MHz, outside the U.S. The ShareLite Diplexer range now includes the world’s smallest high-performance diplexer, the FD9R6004 series integrated 698- to 960-/1710- to 2200-MHz unit. RFS is also unveiling the FD9L4502 series at the show. The series centers on a prototype 698- to 960-/2300- to 2700-MHz multifrequency-range diplexer designed specifically for LTE deployments. A second prototype multifrequency-range diplexer, the FDRL3502 series, is also being shown. It spans the 1710- to 2200-MHz range plus the 2500- to 2700-MHz bands and also assists carriers in their migration to LTE.
Other introductions include a high-performance Optimizer CELlite basestation antenna, several CELLFLEX Lite foam dielectric coaxial transmission line products, and an extensive range of mobile TV antennas.
