Regulators Integrate MOSFETs, Achieve 96% Efficiency

The MAX15050 and MAX15051 2.9- to 5.5-V, 4-A, synchronous dc-dc step-down regulators from Maxim Integrated Products integrate MOSFETs, operate from a fixed 1-MHz switching frequency, and specify peak efficiencies up to 96%. The MAX15050 employs a pulse-skip mode, while the MAX15051 operates with a forced pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode.

Other shared features include an enable input and power-good indicator, adjustable soft-start, and the ability to safely start up into a pre-biased output. Both devices provide a ±1% output-voltage accuracy over load, line, and temperature and operate over a temperature range from –40°C to 85°C. Prices start at $2.17 each/1000. A datasheet for both regulators is viewable at datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/MAX15050-MAX15051.pdf.
