RF flip-chip tuners tune TV and digital radio bands
The MAX2161 and MAX2162 dual-band, dual-mode tuners for Japanese digital broadcasts from Maxim Integrated Products receive UHF and VHF band III and support both 1-segment and 3-segment broadcasts using the ISDB-T standard. The MAX2161 features an I2C-compatible interface, while the MAX2162 has a 3-wire interface for IC-to-IC communication. The small size enables product designers to produce television systems that meet requirements of the Japanese cellphone-TV market.
The MAX2161/MAX2162 tuners contain all of the blocks needed to implement a low-IF TV tuner, except for a crystal and the front-end filters needed to reject interfering cellular-transmit signals. In mobile-TV mode, the devices achieve a maximum sensitivity of –98 dBm with no external filters or amplifiers, and they can withstand adjacent analog-TV interference of greater than 50 dBc at a sensitivity of –95 dB.
This interference rejection reduces both filter complexity and cost. Each device is fully RF-tested.
The MAX2161SEWA/MAX2162SEWA tuners operate from a 2.7 V to 3.3 V supply and draw 110 mW (typical) in low-power mode. These devices are available in custom 46-pin wafer level packages (WLPs), and 40-pin TQFN-EP versions (MAX2161ETL and MAX2162ETL) will be made available. Prices start at $4.00 for 1000-piece orders.
