Creating possibly the smallest inertial measurement unit available, Bosch Sensortec integrates two triaxial microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors in one 3- by 4.5- by 0.95-mm land-grid array (LGA) package. Combining an acceleration sensor and gyroscope, the BMI055 attains six degrees of freedom, making it viable for game consoles and gaming applications in smart phones and tablets. The gyroscope provides 16-bit resolution and a ±125°/s to ±2000°/s programmable measurement range. With 12-bit resolution, the accelerometer covers a ±2-g to ±16-g measurement span. Additionally, the BMI055 includes I²C and SPI interfaces and exhibits very low power consumption.
