Smart Reset Chips Warm Frigid Widgets

Embarking as STMicroelectronics’ latest Smart Reset chips, the STM6519 and STM6524 provide an easy method for resetting frozen products like mobile phones and media players. Instead of cumbersome methods like removing the battery or pricking a hassle-to-access reset button, the ICs extend the functionality of existing buttons. Depending on its configuration, users can reset a device with a long push of one or two buttons simultaneously. The STM6524 dual-assert reset prevents accidental resets. Its two inputs interface with a pre-selected pair of buttons that, when held down simultaneously for a factory-set time, send a reset signal to the processor. The STM6519 single-assert device outfits single-button electronic devices, i.e., tablets and e-readers, with a similar programmable-delay reset. Both devices support a customizable input delay from 0.5 to 10 seconds and integrate a test mode. Prices for the STM6519 and STM6524, respectively, start at $0.242 and $0.338 each/1000. Datasheets for the STM6519 and STM6524, respectively, are available at www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/DATASHEET/DM00036192.pdf and www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/DATASHEET/DM00039851.pdf.
