The Power Integrations LinkSwitch-HP family of off-line switcher ICs deliver up to 90 W of output power with primary-side regulation (PSR). The devices auto select a control mode based on line and load conditions. Eliminating optocouplers and feedback circuitry, they employ control algorithms and properties of the main power transformer and output diode to set output power from the primary to the isolated secondary side. This reduces component count and promises higher reliability. Other features include continuous-conduction-mode operation to reduce RMS currents, a 132-kHz, full-load operating frequency, no-load power consumption of less than 30 mW at 230 V ac, and more than 50% efficiency at 0.1-W input power. Additionally, comprehensive protection is on tap including selectable current limit, programmable shutdown delay-time extension, brown-out, brown-in, over voltage, over current, and over temperature. Samples are available now with production ramping by late August. Package options are eSIP-7C and eDIP-12B. Pricing starts at $0.42 each in 10,000-piece quantities (LNK6763V). Two evaluation demo boards are also available. For more info, go to www.powerint.com/en/products/linkswitch-family/linkswitch-hp.
