New termination technology reduces ESL
AVX Corp. has expanded its low-inductance MLCC family of IDC technology to include a new case size and increased number of terminals per device. Designed for a wide range of high-speed decoupling applications including servers, PCs, graphic cards and ASICS, the IDC is a versatile capacitor that offers high capacitance values while reducing ESL.
The development of new termination technology has allowed AVX to reduce the ESL to approximately 25 pH for the 0306 case size with a typical capacitance of 1 mF. This technology also provides the ability to increase the number of terminals per device.
“AVX has expanded the number of terminals on the 0612 case size to 16, where as traditional IDCs come in eight or 10 terminal options,” said Mark Obuszewski, AVX IDC business manager. “The ESL can be reduced to approximately 20 pH in an 0508 case size by increasing the number of terminals to 14. The new 0306 case size version is available with both eight and 10 terminals, which therefore provide extremely low inductance and higher performance decoupling.”
Pricing typically starts at $0.10 with a lead time of eight to 10 weeks.
