1-A DC-DC Converter Fits USB-Powered Portables
The TPS62750 dc-dc converter from Texas Instruments offers 92% efficiency and supports an input voltage from 2.9 to 6 V, enabling it to support batteries with an extended voltage range and USB-compliant power requirements. According to TI, it’s the smallest 2.25-MHz dc-dc converter for USB-powered portable applications and wireless modems.
The converter’s power-save mode operates at light load currents over the entire load current range. Also, the TPS62750 can discharge during shutdown. It features programmable average current limited for USB applications of 50 to 300 mA for low current and 0.3 to 1.3 A for high current. Further, it boasts ±10% current accuracy. Its input voltage monitoring prevents the USB host from crashing. And, it includes hot-plug, load-disconnect, and short-circuit (VIN/VOUT) protection.
Available now, the TPS62750 comes in a 10-pin, 2.5- by 2.5-mm SON package. Suggested resale pricing is $1.20 in 1000-unit quantities. The TPS62750-EVM-413 evaluation module, samples, and application notes are available.
