First in a family of ultra-small-footprint packages from Intersil Corp., the ISL99201 and ISL99202 audio amplifiers target smart phones, PDAs, game consoles, MP3 and personal media players, personal navigation devices, and LCD TVs.

The ISL99201 is the world’s smallest Class D amplifier, according to Intersil. Available in a nine-bump, 0.4-mm pitch wafer chip-scale package (WCSP), this filterless, fully integrated, high-efficiency mono amplifier can deliver up to 2.5 W into a 4-Ω load. It features a low-noise modulation scheme, operating with 86% efficiency at 400 mW into 8 Ω, and has a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that’s better than 95 dB as well.

Intersil also says that its ISL99202 is the world’s smallest stereo cap-free headphone amplifier. It’s available in a 12-bump, 0.4-mm pitch WCSP and supports speaker impedances from 16 to 600 Ω. Additionally, its ultra-wide operating voltage of 2.4 to 5.5 V suits mobile battery-powered applications that use two AA or single-cell lithium-ion batteries, as well as notebook computers using 3.3- to 5-V power supplies. It’s available in 12-lead thin quad flat no-lead (TQFN) package too.

The ISL99201 is available now in eight-lead thin dual-inline flat (TDFN) packages with prices starting at $0.56 each in lots of 1000. In a nine-bump WCSP, prices start at $0.47 each. The ISL99202 is sampling now in 12-lead TQFN and 0.4-mm-pitch, 12-ball wafer-level chip-scale package (WLCSP), with prices of $0.72 and $0.65 each, respectively, in lots of 1000.
