Using a ball-gird array (BGA) installation concept, the module can be incorporated into high-volume M2M production using tape-and-reel packaging. With its quad-band technology, it can be operated on all of the global GSM networks and makes all of the various data services possible over GSM/GPRS networks. An integrated TCP/IP protocol stack supports UDP, FTP, and SMTP via AT commands.

Also, the GE865-QUAD can be fully integrated with previous Telit platforms and implemented into existing designs. The module is equipped with Over-the-Air firmware updates by means of Premium FOTA Management, enabling extended, remote upgrades of the module software. According to Telit, the GE865-QUAD is idea for locating people or objects in professional and consumer applications. It will be fully certified for all international markets.

The module’s RUN AT Commands allow users to run any AT command via SMS or TCP. The use of text messages from any phone for both activation commands and receiving replies simplifies the remote control of different events on the application side. Key applications for this feature include the monitoring of general-purpose I/Os, roaming, battery level, voltage, and module state with the possibility to send alerts as conditions change. And, the GE865-QUAD operates in an extended temperature range from –40°C to 185°C.
