Tiny Oscillator Offers Exceptional Pull-Range Linearity

Article Tools

Ranging in four package sizes down to 2.5 to 2.0 mm, the SiT3701 from SiTime Corp. is the world’s smallest programmable voltage-controlled microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) oscillator (VCMO), according to the company. Its programmable features include frequency, voltage, tolerance, and pull range, enabling delivery of customized samples in 24 hours and production quantities in two weeks.

SiTime also says the SiT3701offers the best pull-range linearity in the industry, as its 0.5% figure is an order of magnitude better than quartz-based VCXOs and translates into simpler design, higher performance, and improved stability and reliability. The SiT3701 can be programmed for pull ranges of ±30, ±60, ±120, or ±240 ppm; frequencies between 1 and 110 MHz; operating voltages of 1.8, 2.5, 2.8, or 3.3 V; and frequency tolerances of ±25 ppm, ±30 ppm, ±50 ppm, and ±100 ppm.

Sampling now, production quantities will be available during the second quarter of 2009. The 7.0- by 5.0-mm SiT3701 costs $2.05 in quantities of 1000.
