The next-generation maXTouch S series touchscreen controllers from Atmel assume position as key players in the design of unique and intuitive touchscreen interfaces for displays up to 17 in. diagonal (see the figure). Initial apps include smart phones, tablets, digital cameras, and e-readers. The latest offerings include the mXT224S 224-node and mXT336S 336-node controllers plus the mXT1664S, a 32-bit device for touchscreens measuring 10.1 to 17 in. diagonal. The mXT224S and mXT336S target touchscreens from 3.5 to 4.3 in. and 4.3 to 5.5 in. diagonal, respectively. All three employ SlimSensor technology, which enables thinner and lighter mobile products without compromising immersive responsiveness, touch fidelity, or battery life. Another shared feature, maXCharger technology teams analog circuitry and intelligent algorithms with battery chargers outputting up to 240 V of common-mode noise. The technology eliminates false touches while maintaining responsiveness, linearity, and low jitter performance. The maXTouch S series devices are sampling now with production ramping this quarter.
