Transmission line terminators guarantee performance to 40 GHz

TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division has introduced a series of high-density networks for applications requiring high-frequency performance and a reduced footprint. Designated the TaNFilm CHC Series, these custom arrays have been characterized for use as transmission line terminators, at frequencies up to 40 GHz.

The CHC series produces low parasitic inductance and capacitance, thus improving signal integrity and reducing reflections and ringing on high-speed transmission lines. In addition, the networks are available in an array of custom configurations for series, parallel, Thevenin and differential termination styles.

The CHC series chip scale arrays find applications in high-speed transmission line terminators, DDR memory termination, high-speed routers and switches, and copper to fiber/fiber to copper conversion circuits.

Often used as a transmission line terminator, the device features frequencies up to 20 GHz in the CD1065B package and up to 40 GHz in the CC0910B package. The construction of IRC’s chip scale termination array features solder balls on a high purity alumina substrate. This construction leads to reduced ground bounce and reflections as well as improved signal integrity.

The chipscale networks are available in a wide range of standard and custom resistance values from 22 ohms to 10 Kohms, with isolated or bussed schematics, incorporating from 10 to 40 resistors. The devices also feature absolute TCRs to ±100 ppm/ºC, standard tolerances to ±1% with operating temperatures from –40ºC to +85ºC. Various package sizes are available for the 1.0 mm pitch and 0.65 mm pitch series. The 1.0 mm pitch series features a 27 and 36 element package, measuring 9.0 mm x 3.0 mm and 9.0 mm x 4.0 mm, respectively. The 0.65 mm pitch series includes a 10-element package (3.2 mm x 1.2 mm), a 32-element package (5.1 mm x 2.4 mm) and a 40-element package (6.4 mm x 2.5 mm).

Typical pricing for the CHC Series devices is $0.80 each in quantities of 10,000 with lead times from stock to 12 weeks.
