First Tunable FMC to Support Multiple Frequency Bands and Modes
The Radio420X FPGA mezzanine card can be in applications such as femto and pico basestations, micro access points, WiMAX, and LTE. This multimode software SDR RF transceiver module can be used with any FMC carrier on the market and is designed around the multistandard, multiband Lime Microsystems LMS6002D integrated RF transceiver.
The Lyrtech Radio420X FPGA mezzanine card (FMC) can be used in applications such as femto and pico basestations, micro access points, WiMAX, and LTE. This multimode software defined radio (SDR) RF transceiver module can be used with any FMC carrier on the market, such as the Xilinx ML605 EVM. It is designed around the multistandard, multiband Lime Microsystems LMS6002D integrated RF transceiver. The LMS6002D replaces several individual transceiver ICs and allows quick and simple reconfiguration, resulting in considerable reductions in size, time to market, bill of materials and inventory for OEMs, according to Lyrtech (see the figure).
The Radio420X is completely integrated to Lyrtech’s own Virtex-6 Perseus advanced mezzanine card (AMC) making it even simpler to use. Lyrtech claims that the Perseus’ thorough integration to powerful software design tools should allow users to field applications incorporating the Radio420X in much less time than with other FMC carriers. The Radio420X’s front end design and wide RF coverage, combined with multiple references and synchronization modes makes it suitable for a large number of narrowband and broadband applications with excellent channel selectivity.
The FMC’s clock management facility offers low-phase-noise clock distribution, a phase-lock looped (PLL) core, dividers, dual voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), and a jitter cleaner feature. Combining this facility to a very low-jitter, 4x4 crosspoint switch makes it possible to generate the variety of clocks necessary to the Radio420X.
This product is available in SISO (Radio420S) and 2x2 MIMO (Radio420M) configurations. The Radio420M offers two transceivers on the same FMC site, making 2x2 MIMO and dual-band applications possible.
