UMTS Chipset Targets Access Points And Residential Gateways
The MAX2557 receiver and MAX2597 transmitter WCDMA Band II and Band V femto basestation transceiver chipset from Maxim Integrated Products offer a unique digital interface for the North American UMTS market, suiting residential gateways and access points, according to the company. These chips use Maxim’s proprietary high-dynamic-range MAX-PHY interface to eliminate the need for a mixed-signal analog front end.
The MAX2557’s four low-noise amplifier (LNA) inputs enable the monitoring of WCDMA and GSM macro-network signals. The MAX2597 integrates power amplifiers to further reduce bill of materials expense. The MAX2557 is available in a 48-pin fcLGA package, while the MAX2597 comes in a 64-pin fcLGA. Both operate over the –40°C to 85°C extended industrial temperature range.
The set represents the North American versions previously released UMTS Band I MAX2547 and MAX2599 transceiver chipset. For rapid application development, an available reference design kit provides a complete evaluation platform and all necessary software.
